Psalm 23

One of these days, I am going to preach on a mostly-happy Psalm! I mapped out the sequence of messages in advance, but I am amazed at how often the Psalm for that week fits something in my world. We all know the famous line in this Psalm, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.” It is actually better translated, “the valley of deep darkness” – more than “just” death. And this week has been trying. We’ve faced some tough circumstances (which I won’t delineate here!). My first response has not been “I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” It’s been frustration or anger or sorrow. I suspect that is where most of us start. I’ve had to remind myself that I am not alone in the process! How about you?
