Life & Death, Part 2

Romans 2:5-11 You may have heard the expression, “If you’re not living, you’re dying.” That expression may be more true than we realize. Paul said in Romans 8:6, “The mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.” How true this is! So, are we living or dying? That is the question that we’ll look to answer this Sunday as we explore Romans 2:5-11 again and see how we can not just live,…

Life & Death

Life & DeathRomans 2:5-11 Stephen Covey has said, “We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behavior.” I found this to be true in my own life. The reality, however, is that the only thing that will be judged on the day of judgment is our actions, or works, not our intentions. This is Paul’s message in Romans 2:5-11. God, who judges impartially, will weigh each one’s works and reward everyone accordingly. This judgment comes not only in…

The Day Of Reckoning

Romans 2:2-4 As Christians, we enjoy the never-ending always available grace of our loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us in Lamentations 3, “The Lord’s lovingkindness indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” What we fail to understand though, at times, is that God’s lovingkindness, compassion, and faithfulness to us as His children may not always look like we think it should. There are times when our loving Heavenly Father’s love and…

Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged

Romans 2:1 How many times have we heard someone say this? Oftentimes when people say this it is in effort to deflect from their sinful practices so as to alleviate their conscience. However, this principle is true as it was espoused by both Jesus and the Apostle Paul. What does it mean to “do not judge, lest ye be judged?” That is the subject of Romans chapter 2. This Sunday, we will begin chapter two in our series,  Righteousness, Wrath, and…

One Reason To Pray

Jeremiah 29:11-14; Habakkuk 3:17-18 We are familiar with the Jeremiah passage that speaks of the plan God had for the Israelites. Does this passage apply to us in the same way it did when it was written? We know God has a purpose for each of us, yet what should our response be to God as we live out our days? Join us this Sunday as Rob Matlack brings us a timely message, giving us One Reason To Pray.

Jesus, The Storm Stopper

Mark 4:35-41 When was the last time you went through a life storm? Maybe you’re in the middle of one right now. Whether you are currently experiencing difficulties or one is heading your way, we can be comforted knowing that our peace rests in Jesus. This Sunday, Payton Carter will bring a message from Mark 4, where Jesus calms the storm. Join us for a time of corporate worship and the study of God’s Word together.

Dangerous Days Because Of Dangerous Dudes

2 Timothy 3:16-4:4 How important is the Bible to our practical, daily life? Is it primarily the way to believe the message of eternal life through Jesus, the Christ? What do we think about the Bible? Does it really matter day to day? If so, why? Paul seems to parallel some of his thoughts in Romans 1:18-32 when he writes his last letter to Timothy. And, I think the rest of the Bible confirms his opinion.

The Dangerous Descent Into Darkness

Romans 1:24-32 Does sin still have consequences today? That is a question many Christians may contemplate throughout life. If Jesus has forgiven us all our sins, what real effect then does sin have in a believer’s life? What about unbelievers? Do they suffer the effects of their sin? Paul addresses this subject in Romans 1:24-32 as he shares what the dangerous descent into darkness leads to in the life of all people.

Truth, Lies, & Reality

Romans 1:18-25 Pilate, when confronting Jesus on His claim to testify to the truth exclaimed, “What is truth!” In our day, many people believe that ultimate truth is unknowable, especially truth related to the origin of man or the universe. God says otherwise.  Knowing the truth about our Creator and His design for life is not only imperative, but expected. Without a proper understanding of who we are and why God created us and for what purpose, life will be a…

Power To Save

Romans 1:16-17 Salvation means a lot of things to a lot of people. But for the believer in Jesus, it means everything. We understand that we have been eternally saved from the damning consequences of our sins. This is the crux of the Gospel message.  There is another way that Christians can experience salvation though, and that is through the power of Jesus working in us to save us from experiencing God’s discipline (wrath) for our daily sins as we walk this…

The Gospel Family, Part 2

The Gospel Family Part 2Romans 1:11-15 We are an eternal family. Those are the facts! So, as a family that will exist through eternity, it would serve us all well to know how our mutual Father desires us to function in our family. Last week we saw how we are to thank God and pray for one another. Paul continues to share more ways that we can be the Gospel Family our Father has called us to be.

The Gospel Family

Is the Gospel uniting the Church? Is the Gospel uniting our church? The Gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed to unite God to man through the sacrifice of His Son. But, it is also given to unite the family of God with one another. So, now that the Gospel has united us with our Heavenly Father, how is our heavenly family dynamic on earth going?  the Apostle Paul “longed” to see and be with his church family in Rome. He…
