Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged

Romans 2:1 How many times have we heard someone say this? Oftentimes when people say this it is in effort to deflect from their sinful practices so as to alleviate their conscience. However, this principle is true as it was espoused by both Jesus and the Apostle Paul. What does it mean to “do not judge, lest ye be judged?” That is the subject of Romans chapter 2. This Sunday, we will begin chapter two in our series,  Righteousness, Wrath, and…

The Dangerous Descent Into Darkness

Romans 1:24-32 Does sin still have consequences today? That is a question many Christians may contemplate throughout life. If Jesus has forgiven us all our sins, what real effect then does sin have in a believer’s life? What about unbelievers? Do they suffer the effects of their sin? Paul addresses this subject in Romans 1:24-32 as he shares what the dangerous descent into darkness leads to in the life of all people.

Truth, Lies, & Reality

Romans 1:18-25 Pilate, when confronting Jesus on His claim to testify to the truth exclaimed, “What is truth!” In our day, many people believe that ultimate truth is unknowable, especially truth related to the origin of man or the universe. God says otherwise.  Knowing the truth about our Creator and His design for life is not only imperative, but expected. Without a proper understanding of who we are and why God created us and for what purpose, life will be a…

Power To Save

Romans 1:16-17 Salvation means a lot of things to a lot of people. But for the believer in Jesus, it means everything. We understand that we have been eternally saved from the damning consequences of our sins. This is the crux of the Gospel message.  There is another way that Christians can experience salvation though, and that is through the power of Jesus working in us to save us from experiencing God’s discipline (wrath) for our daily sins as we walk this…

The Gospel Family, Part 2

The Gospel Family Part 2Romans 1:11-15 We are an eternal family. Those are the facts! So, as a family that will exist through eternity, it would serve us all well to know how our mutual Father desires us to function in our family. Last week we saw how we are to thank God and pray for one another. Paul continues to share more ways that we can be the Gospel Family our Father has called us to be.

The Gospel Family

Is the Gospel uniting the Church? Is the Gospel uniting our church? The Gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed to unite God to man through the sacrifice of His Son. But, it is also given to unite the family of God with one another. So, now that the Gospel has united us with our Heavenly Father, how is our heavenly family dynamic on earth going?  the Apostle Paul “longed” to see and be with his church family in Rome. He…

Paul, Jesus, and Me

Romans 1:1-7 This Sunday we will begin a new sermon series through the first eight chapters of the book of Romans. The Apostle wrote this letter  with three purposes in mind: missionary, apologetic, and pastoral. Some have said that this letter was Paul’s last will and testament. These are trying times we live in today, much like 1st century Rome. My prayer is that study will open our eyes and hearts to the timeless truths of the gospel of Jesus…

The Heart of God – Love

1 John 4:7-10 God is Love. That is how the apostle of Love, John, described His God. The epitome of Love. God’s love for us is so great, that there is no greater demonstration of it in the world than in the giving of God’s sinless Son Jesus Christ for us.  Are we experiencing God’s love in our lives? Are we seeing His love flow out of our hearts into the lives of others? This Sunday we will conclude our series…

The Heart of God – God of Grace

Grace. It’s a word that gets used quite a bit around Burleson Bible Church. You could even say it’s a theme throughout our church, and rightfully so. Because God’s grace is so amazing, it influences everything we are and everything we do, as it should.  But what truly is the meaning of grace? This Sunday, we will explore our God of grace and see how His grace gives us all we need for life and salvation.

The Heart of God – Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness. Do you remember singing this as a child? I sure do. God’s faithfulness is one of his characteristics that is often underappreciated in many believers’ lives. After one has walked with God for some time though, it becomes one of the most appreciated traits of God.  This Sunday we will once again look at the Heart of God and see how His faithfulness flows from His unchanging character.

The Heart of God – Compassion

A.W. Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Why? Why would our thoughts of God be the most important thing about us? I believe it is because our view of God shapes our entire view of ourselves, others, and our world.  God has many characteristics that help us understand Him. It is vital to every believer in Christ to understand who God is so that we can enjoy…
