Life often is filled with trials and hardship. It has always been this way as we live in a world characterized by sin, selfishness, and self-promotion. It is into this world that Jesus gave His Sermon on the Mount. The Beatitudes, found at the beginning of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-12), are a series of declarations that describe the values of the kingdom of heaven. In these blessings, Jesus highlights the surprising qualities that God honors, such as humility, mercy, purity of heart, and peacemaking. Through the Beatitudes, Jesus reverses worldly expectations, showing that true blessing comes not from power or wealth, but from dependence on God, righteousness, and a heart aligned with His will. These teachings offer both comfort and challenge, inviting believers to live in a way that reflects the character of God’s kingdom.
