Blessed Are The Brokenhearted

Blessed Are The Brokenhearted

Matthew 5:4

Matthew 5:4 is part of the Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Matthew 5:4 addresses the paradoxical blessing found in mourning, a state usually associated with sorrow and loss. Here, “those who mourn” refers to people who grieve over personal or collective suffering, sin, and the brokenness of the world. In mourning, they acknowledge their dependence on God and feel deeply for the pain caused by sin and separation from Him.

The promise of comfort is both present and future. Jesus assures that God will provide solace, hope, and restoration, ultimately fulfilled in God’s kingdom where all suffering is redeemed.
